What kind of browser do I need to have?
Internet Banking supports Netscape Navigator 4.0 and higher and Microsoft Explorer 4.0 and higher. The browser must support SSL (secure sockets layer) encryption.

How do I know if my banking session is encrypted?
You can determine if encryption is being used on a given web page by looking for the secure padlock icon in the lower portion of your browser.

What can I do to protect my accounts and personal information while I'm banking online?
Merchants State Bank takes numerous steps to keep your accounts and personal information secure, but you also play a role in maintaining the security of your banking information. Here's what you can do:
-Memorize your Internet Banking ID and password
Your online password authenticates you when you begin an internet banking session. You should memorize this password and never write it anywhere or reveal it to anyone.
-Change your password regularly
It's important to change your password regularly, which you can easily do when you begin an internet banking session.
-Remember to sign off
You may not always be on your own computer when you bank online. Therefore, it's important to sign off when you're finished banking. In fact, if you are not on your own computer, Merchants State Bank recommends that you completely close your internet connection when you're finished with your internet banking session.
-Utilize the built-in security features of your browser
Choosing certain security settings and options on your browswer will help protect your privacy.

What happens if I don't log off the system?
By default, Internet Banking has a 10 minute time-out feature, so if the system is not used for 10 minutes, then the user will be inactive and will have to log-in again.

What happens if I forget my password?
You are allowed 3 password attempts, and on the 3rd attempt, if invalid, you will be locked out of the system. At that time, you must notify us through our contact page e-mail or call Merchants State Bank (605)925-4222 or toll free (866)228-9747 and we will reset the system so you may enter a new password.

How late in the day can I make transfers?
The transfer cut-off time for current day's business is 2:00pm CST.

Can a transfer be established to occur in the future or on a recurring basis?
Yes. Transfers can be scheduled to occur once, weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly, and with an expiration date.

Can transfers be edited or deleted?
Yes.

If a recurring transfer falls on a weekend or holiday, when will the transfer occur?
The transfer will occur on the business day before the weekend or holiday.

Can I make a loan payment?
Yes, by using the transfer option to move funds from your checking or savings account.

How far back will I be able to see transactions, statements, and check images?
You will be able to view history up to one year.

Can I view an image of my checks or deposits?
Yes, you can view both the front and back of your checks and deposits.

Can I download my transactions into a financial software product?
Yes. Your transactions can be downloaded into Microsoft Money, Excel and other spreadsheets, and word processing products.

Whom can I pay through Online Bill Payment?
You can pay anyone in the United States from the next door neighbor, to the utility company, to the bank, and even a child in college across the country. One exception: you cannot pay any government agency via bill payment.

When will the money be taken out of my account?
All payments will be debited from your account immediately at the time of payment. This money will be used by our bill payment company to "cut a check" or send an ACH.

What if I do not have enough money in my account?
If funds are not available when your account is debited, your payment will be unsuccessful. You will not be charged any overdraft or insufficient funds fees. However, you will need to deposit or transfer money to cover the payment or close it altogether. A payment will not occur if funds are unavailable.

How late in the day can I enter, edit, or delete a payment?
Payments are processed at 4:30pm CST.

What happens if I have a scheduled payment that falls over a weekend or holiday?
Scheduled payments that fall over a weekend will be processed on Friday. Any new payments that are scheduled over the weekend, for the current weekend, will be processed on Monday. Holiday processing is done the following day after the holiday.

Can I use online bill payment if I live outside the US?
Yes, as long as you have a bank account in the United States.

How far in advance should I set up a payment to insure it is paid on time?
Check payments should be scheduled 5-6 business days in advance of when you want the payment to actually be posted at the payee. Electronic payments should be made 3-4 business days in advance of when you want the payment to be posted at the payee.

How far in advance can I schedule payments?
You may schedule payments up to 90 days in advance of the first due date. Recurring payments can have an end date of any year in the future.

Can I stop a payment?
Yes. You can close any payment before it occurs at no cost. If you need to enforce a stop pay, please call Merchants State Bank at 605-925-4222 or 866-228-9747. There is a $15.00 online stop pay fee.

How do I know if a merchant is paid electronically or by check?
Once you have set up the vendor/merchant, then you can look at the View Payees screen and you will see the field that will tell you if the vendor is electronic or check.

Can I setup recurring payments?
Yes. You can set up recurring payments in the following frequencies: weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, semi-monthly, Quarterly, Annually, or Semi-Annually.

Will the memo field that I fill out when setting up a payment be passed on to the merchant?
Yes and No. If the item is going by check, the memo will print in the regular memo field of the item. If it is going electronically, then the memo field will not print.

Can I edit Payee addresses?
Yes. Click on "edit" next to the payee and change the information needed.
